Brooke Johnson, a certified physician assistant specializing in endocrinology, is now seeing patients at the Essentia Health-Duluth Clinic.
“My family has been wanting to get back to a smaller city with ready access to the outdoors,” Johnson said. “Duluth fit the bill! And being on Lake Superior is a big plus (we’re water people). I was drawn to Essentia’s endocrinology team because of its reputation for good patient care.”
Johnson earned a master’s degree in physician assistant studies from Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Ore., and is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
“I am interested in all types of diabetes, but in particular I’m interested in inpatient diabetes management and diabetes in pregnancy,” Johnson said. “Diabetes affects all aspects of life. To effectively manage it, you really have to get to know your patient and build trust. This patient-provider relationship is what drew me to this area of medicine. It is also an area where patients can feel empowered through lifestyle modifications and utilization of new technology.”
