Dr. Amy Garcia, who specializes in pediatric gastroenterology, is excited to welcome new patients at the Essentia Health-Duluth Clinic.
“My sons love hockey and this led to my family moving to Minnesota,” Dr. Garcia explained. “The opportunity to work at Essentia Health allows me to be closer to my husband and sons. This is also my opportunity to work in a smaller community than my previous parts of training and practice. I have missed the college-town feel and am looking forward to being involved as a community member.”
Dr. Garcia earned a medical degree from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine in Albuquerque, N.M., where she also completed a residency in pediatrics. She did a fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo., and has been practicing in Portland, Ore. Dr. Garcia is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics.
“Nutrition in all its forms has been an interest throughout my life,” Dr. Garcia said. “I enjoy thinking, teaching and addressing the intersection of nutrition, culture and social determinants of health for all my patients because that can have such a great impact on their overall health. In particular, those with nutritional failure have always been in my heart.”
