Ann Ahmed’s Newest Restaurant Aims to Fulfill Vacation Cravings

Chef Ann Ahmed’s newest restaurant Spice Market, her third, will takeover the former Harriet’s Pub space on Lyndale and 40th Street and transform it into another Southeast Asian hotspot. This will be Ahmed’s first inside the city limits restaurant. Her first, Lemon Grass Thai is in Brooklyn Park and her second Lat14 in Golden Valley. Both of those restaurants have earned wide and loyal followings.

Ahmed is partnering with Shea, the firm that also designed Lat14, a notable transformation of a Perkins into a modern, elegant restaurant serving food from around the 14th latitude region. The goal will be to flip the pubby space into something more tropical, including a patio space ready for warmer weather.

The restaurant will be built for in-person dining, have great takeout options, and a full bar with drinks from Trish Gavin. Like Lat14, there will also be an extensive, equally creative nonalcoholic drink selection, as well.

Fare Game’s Quick Comfort Food Is Now Available on Chicago Avenue

Chef Jason Sawicki first opened his new food truck Fare Game in a Northeast parking lot earlier in the pandemic. Now the chef, who has previously worked at Popol Vuh and Lyn65, has a second, kitchen-only location that is now serving his fried chicken, bologna sandwiches, paczki’s, and more from a window next to the Parkway Theater (inside the former El Burrito location) on Chicago Avenue in Minneapolis. Online ordering is available Thursday through Saturday for pick up.

Meanwhile, Sawicki continues to work on a permanent location for Fare Game in Northeast, on Johnson Street.

Roseville’s Popular Roast Beef Restaurant Expands to Stillwater

Maverick’s Roast Beef is essential eating in the St. Paul suburb of Roseville. The tender roast beef sandwiches with optional toppings, skinny fries, and milkshakes are irresistible to those in the know. Now, the strip mall shop is looking to bring those tastes eastward with a second location planned for Stillwater.

The new shop will have a similar layout to the original, with an open kitchen to watch the workers thinly shave that rare roast meat and pile it high on a squish bun. Located on Stillwater Boulevard off Highway 36, the new location expects to open April 1.
