The owners of Soul Bowl, the new soul food restaurant, are about to open B.A.D. Wingz, inside Northeast’s Glam Doll Donuts. The new spot will serve 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at 519 Central Avenue Northeast in Minneapolis. The menu is packed with both chicken wings and a specially made vegan wing that was created through a partnership with the Herbivorous Butcher. Chef Gerard Klass, who owns the restaurants along with his wife Brittney, grew up vegetarian, so creating non-meat options with all the flavor and swagger he’s known for was important.
There will be two meaty, and two vegetable-made types of wings to order, along with sauces that include a Cashville hot (like Nashville hot, but with a touch more sweetness to manage the heat), MPLS Mambo (a riff on D.C. Mambo) sauce, plus traditional wing favorites like barbecue and Buffalo. Also on the menu will be steak and sweet potato sides, plus jasmine rice with some Steph Curry sauce, and vegan ranch dressing.
The restaurant kicks off opening with an event on Tuesday September 8 with take out and delivery available. There’s also an app in the works that will make ordering even easier.
Brittney and Gerard Klass first launched Soul Bowl as a pop-up that blended soul food with music, creating now classic dishes like their take on jerk chicken and waffles, or a giant beauty of a fried chicken sandwich, the Big K.R.I.T. Soul Bowl opened its permanent location inside the North Loop food hall Graze last year.
