The Northern Minnesota Railroad Heritage Association (NMRHA) model train club is open now for visitors on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The new building is on County Road 66, across from Zorba’s. The new building was designed by a local architect and built by a local contractor to look like a train depot. The members are working on building new layouts (tracks, buildings, scenery).
There is a large Garde Scale layout in the lower level, and O scale and HO scale layouts on the main floor. There is a small, low height children’s train that they can operate, with whistles to blow.
The new facility also includes a store where children’s train-story books, whistles, and train related bubble blowers, can be purchased. Also, NMRHA T-shirts are available for adults and children. Children receive free train safety color books, book marks, pens, balloons and whistles. The club is raffling off a modular HO layout for someone to take home in December. Raffle tickets are available at the club. The drawing will be held on December 5.
