After 10 years in the business, a downtown Duluth candy shop known for its popcorn will have its last day of business Dec. 31.
Duluth Candy Co. is closing as a result of the pandemic, according to a news release from the small business located in the Fannie Rose Building. Products will be available for sale at duluthcandyco.com until the shop closes.
The store opened as Fannie Rose Candy in 2010 with plans to operate like a vintage candy store with nostalgic, bulk and penny candies, according to a 2015 feature that ran in the News Tribune.
But it was the gourmet popcorn that became the hit at 103 E. Superior St., with flavors that start with cheddar, then veer into creamy dill, caramel apple, s’mores and more. Among the small-batch, handmade favorites: the Duluth Mix, which crosses cheesy cheddar and caramel.
The name changed to Duluth Candy Co. in 2019.
