Bethany Owen, the president and CEO of Duluth-based Allete, has been named chair of the energy company’s board of directors.
The expected move completes a more than two-year succession plan to replace Al Hodnik, who previously held those three roles before a phased retirement.
Prior to being named Allete president in 2019 and CEO in 2020, Owen worked as senior vice president and chief legal and administrative officer at Allete. She’s also served as president of the Allete-owned Superior Water, Light and Power; director of transmission regulatory compliance and business support; and led the information technology solutions department. Owen joined the company in 2002 as an attorney in the legal services department.
Hodnik will retire this month from Allete after four decades at the company, including his time as president from 2009 to 2010 and CEO from 2010 to 2020.
