Eat Street’s finest roti spot lives again
After a closure of more than a year, Eat Street’s beloved Harry Singh’s Original Caribbean Restaurant is back in business. Singh himself confirmed the reopening in a phone call with Eater.
A decades-old restaurant broadly considered to serve some of the best (and spiciest) curry goat, jerk chicken, and vegetable roti in the Cities, Harry Singh’s closed abruptly in fall of 2022. At the time, Singh left a note on the door letting customers know that he had broken his leg; he had also had his business license revoked by the city of Minneapolis due to outstanding taxes. The license was reapproved this summer — Singh says city representatives came to the restaurant to meet with him and remedy the issue. In the meantime, he says, his leg has healed up well, and he’s ready to be back in the kitchen.
Menu-wise, little has changed: Expect the same oxtail, curry potatoes, and proprietary hot sauce. Singh opened the restaurant for a few days during the week of November 20 before closing for the Thanksgiving holiday break, but he says he’ll be rolling with regular hours starting tomorrow, November 28. Last week, he reports, a number of longtime customers stopped in to welcome him back. “They’re so happy — they said ‘God bless you,’ and this and that,” says Singh. “[They came for] the hot sauce and the rotis.”
Harry Singh’s new hours will be Tuesday through Sunday, noon to 8 or 8:30 p.m. or so.
