Christopher & Banks stores to close, including 3 in Northland

Another clothing retailer is closing stores across the U.S., including three in the Northland.

Christopher & Banks, a Minneapolis-based retailer of women’s clothing and accessories, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and has started the process of closing most, if not all, of its 449 stores according to a news release.

The stores in the Miller Hill Mall in Duluth and Uptown Virginia, formerly the Thunderbird Mall, in Virginia, are confirmed to close, though neither are certain of a specific closing date. The store in the Central Square Mall in Grand Rapids is also on a list of closing stores, but an employee at the store declined to confirm its closing.

Keri Jones, president and chief executive officer, cited “financial distress resulting from the pandemic and its ongoing impact” as the reason to file bankruptcy and pursue the sale of the business.

“I want to extend my deepest gratitude to our dedicated associates, loyal customers and supportive partners for their commitment to Christopher & Banks throughout these challenging times,” Jones said.
